Technological advances combined with the rapid development of the internet, have given rise to a new form of data analysis and consequently to the creation of a new interdisciplinary field, that of Data Science.
Data Science is a modern branch of Information Science with a focus on the knowledge mining from unstructured or structured data, computational techniques for data volume management and data complexity, while directly related to other sciences and fields, such as mathematics and statistics, predictive analytics, machine learning, artificial intelligence, data mining, programming, information systems and databases.
The research laboratory, following the international research trend, intends to serve the needs of specialized undergraduate and postgraduate education, research and development needs, to undertake the elaboration of research and development projects, to assist the interconnection of the Academic community with labor market and transfer and dissemination of knowledge and know-how, in the cognitive objects related to Data Science and Informatics in general.
Collaborates with other Research laboratories as well as with faculty members, professors of other Universities, researchers, specialists, and external collaborators, to serve the purposes of the laboratory.
Provides the opportunity to students of the Department of Management Science and Technology, but also of other departments of the University of Patras, to use the knowledge gained through the courses included in the Undergraduate program and which are related to the purpose of the laboratory, such as :
